Optimal Location and Size of Static Var Compensators (SVC) to Enhance the Voltage Profile on the Main Interconnected System in Oman

This study aimed to optimize the incorporation of static var compensators (SVCs) into Oman’s main interconnected system (MIS) using real 2023 MIS data. Leveraging particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm within MATLAB, substantial enhancements were achieved in voltage profiles, with associated losses reducing by roughly 2%. A multi-objective strategy effectively managed costs while preserving improved profiles and controlled losses. Validation through DigSILENT showcased dynamic advantages optimal SVC placement consistently elevating mitigating losses, notably Muscat region. Analyses encompassing harmonics, transient stability, load distribution indicated that harmonics remained acceptable thresholds, overall stability was enhanced. Optimal deployment expedited attainment steady-state conditions, as illustrated via QV curve, demonstrating increased buses loaded from 18% 96%. These findings underscore robust efficient nature integration a viable solution system, addressing profile enhancement, loss minimization, fortified stability.
